I hear trash cans scraping against the pavement. A few cars pulling out of their driveways, intertwined with the similarly infrequent hum on the main roads nearby. People starting their days, roused before the sun has begun its cyclic stroll past the horizon.

Still, my eyes have not shut. No heavy lids. Scarcely a blink. Simply put, I cannot fall asleep.

Endings, beginnings, the immediate... concepts lost in my haze. An oddly attentive haze for as little rest as I have had this week. Attentive and deluded.

Too much on my mind. Too many incessant thoughts. Too many forgotten faces. Recurrent motions. Redundant emotions. Abandoned life choices. Late night phone calls. Rehashed memories... Negligible or otherwise, still included and obsessed upon...

I desire the familiar warmth of slumber.
